Democratic political operative Joe Trippi is representing the last
two Kuwait detainees held by the U.S. at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba,
prison complex.
As consultant to Potomac Square Group, Trippi is to have input of its
"straegic communications" campaign to achieve the "repariation of the
two remaining Kuwaiti detainees."
The effort is funded by International Counsel Bureau, the London
lawyer firm hired by the families of the prisoners.
PSG is to work in tandem with Pillsury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and
Arnold & Porter, which are special lead counsels to ICB.
The firm is headed by Chris Cooper, a journalist with 20 years of experience, including 11 years at the Wall Street Journal, where he
covered the Middle East among other beats.
Trippi cut his political teeth on Teddy Kennedy's presidential
challenge to Jimmy Carter. He was national campaign manager for the
Howard Dean presidential run, and headed Jerry Brown's successful
return to Governor of California.
Last year, Joe Trippi & Assocs. was hired by the Kingdom of Bahrain
in the aftermath of the bloody crackdown against protesters, an unrest
that was finally squashed with the arrival of troops from Saudi Arabia.
His firm received a $30K monthly retainer in the effort to promote
democratic reform in Bahrain. That effort ended this past summer.
Levick Strategic Communications has worked with the ICB on behalf of
Kuwaiti's Gitmo population since 2004.
That effort includes outreach to media and non-governmental organizations.
