Letitia Baldrige, etiquette guru and former PR direcor at Tiffany & Co., died Oct. 30 at her home in Bethesda. She was 86.
Known as Tish, Baldrige left the high-end jewelry store to help her
friend Jackie Kennedy in the role of social secretary of the Kennedy
White House.
The New York Times obit reported that the Kennedy Adminstration became
the "center of culture, art, elegance and striking state dinners" in
large part due to Baldrige's role.
She left the White House six months before John Kennedy's
assassination to work at Kennedy family business at the Merchandise
Mart in Chicago.
Baldrige founded her own PR and marketing firm, and during the 1970s
"established herself as an authority on contemporary etiquete,"
writing a syndicated column and updating "Amy Vanderbilt's Complete
Guide of Etiquette."
In 1985, Baldrige published "Letitia Baldrige's Complete Guide to
Executive Manners." |
